Amazing Amazon: Poison dart frogs, snakes, spiders and more

The Ecuadorian Amazon was like nowhere we’ve been before. It wasn’t just the sight of all the different animals and plants that made the experience amazing, but the sounds and smells as well.
As we went though different areas we would smell different plants, trees and flowers. Everything was fresh yet the humidity was full on (up to 99%) at times.

The sounds of the rainforest were out of this world. All around you’d hear Cicada screeching at fluctuating volumes, birds squawking and caiman crashing around in the water.

The first time I heard Howler monkeys in the distance the unearthly noise blew my mind. It was like nothing I’d ever heard before. It’s hard to explain this almost demonic low resonance of howling echoing through the trees. It’s more like something from a horror film than what you’d expect from a monkey.

We managed to see so much over our five days in the jungle – even the dark night’s introduced a whole new world of beasties we’d missed during the day.

Here are some of my highlights below.
