Meenakshi Amman Temple – Madurai – Tamil Nadu

0

Its very cold in England at the moment, temperatures reaching near -22c, all the lakes are frozen so no fishing for me, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8447023.stm .

As I’ve had some free time I have managed to process some more images from my India trip, I have posted a couple below.

Meenakshi Amman Temple – Madurai – Tamil Nadu

On our trip to India, we decided to make an unplanned visit to Tamil Nadu state.
Our south India driver took us to Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai.  Madurai city is over 2500 years old, the present temple is believed to have been built in 1600.  The detail of the carvings on the outside of the temple are amazing, when you get inside the temple you see some amazing stone work that dates back to 1559. I would definitely recommend visiting the temple with a guide to show you around the different shrines and explain little history about the place, its also nice to walk around and take it in at your own pace.

If you would like to know more information about the temple have a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meenakshi_Amman_temple

Happy New Year – First Post of 2010

3

As it’s the 1st day of 2010 I thought I would post one of my favourite photos from 2009.
This photo was taken when we stayed on the backwaters of Kerala, we rented a beautiful houseboat for 2 days. Back in the year 2000 I watched Globe Trekker (the travel series), one of the presenters stayed on a houseboat on the backwaters of Kerala. Since I saw this program I wanted to do the same, 9 years on my dream came true. I would definitely recommend that anyone visiting Kerala rents a house boat, it’s an amazing experience.

The snake charmer and Christmas

0

Hope everyone had a great Christmas, I have been full of a cold all Christmas. Getting all the family to meet up over Christmas was fun, the Debouge clan went over to the mother in laws for Christmas dinner, I drank Bitburger all day to help ease the throat and cold, seemed to do the trick for a few hours. We all had a great day, even my dog Boris :-) . My better half got me a fancy Leatherman Charge for Christmas and few fishing lures :-) . So far the rest of the Christmas holiday has been spent on the sofa watching films on a friends projector and keeping warm with a nice bottle of Hendrix gin, or should I say Hendrix heaven gin.

I have managed to find some time to process some more photos from my trip.
When in Fort Cochin I saw a snake charmer on the street outside our hotel.
We paid the man a few rupees and he did a great show for me, so good I paid him again for another show :-) . Below are some of the photos I took.

I have some more photos of the snake charmer on here , please let me know what you think by adding a comment here or on Flickr.

India People Photography

Christmas eve is nearly here again, I hopefully have all the presents for people purchased and wrapped now.

Couple nights back I finished the first set of candid / people photography from India.

In general everyone I met in India was very welcoming, and ready to help in any way they could. It’s the tourists you have to watch out for :-)   I don’t do much candid photography, I always feel awkward photographing people. I don’t like to do it without permission, and once you ask someone for a photograph you get a silly pose or something. I prefer the natural unposed style of candids and portraits. Below are a few photos of Indian people I managed to get a snap of.

All photos processed in Adobe Lightroom using Photoshop to reduce image size and sharpen.

Magical Munnar

I’ve finally finished processing my photos taken in Munnar, India.
We went to Munnar for two days staying at the High Range Club. I could have stayed for a week of taking photos but we had to stick to our tight itinerary. Good excuse to go back I say :-) . The High Range Club was established in 1905, I don’t think it has changed much since then, the place has lots of character and we were well looked after.

If I had to describe Munnar in one word I would say “Green” this place is so lush and fertile its unbelievable, mountain slopes planted with tea everywhere you look.
Anyone going Kerala, should visit Munnar for at least a day, it’s a great experience, truly beautiful.

Below are some photos from the two days.
Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2 with minimal post processing, small amount of sharpening in Photoshop.
