Happy New Year – First Post of 2010
3As it’s the 1st day of 2010 I thought I would post one of my favourite photos from 2009.
This photo was taken when we stayed on the backwaters of Kerala, we rented a beautiful houseboat for 2 days. Back in the year 2000 I watched Globe Trekker (the travel series), one of the presenters stayed on a houseboat on the backwaters of Kerala. Since I saw this program I wanted to do the same, 9 years on my dream came true. I would definitely recommend that anyone visiting Kerala rents a house boat, it’s an amazing experience.
The snake charmer and Christmas
0Hope everyone had a great Christmas, I have been full of a cold all Christmas. Getting all the family to meet up over Christmas was fun, the Debouge clan went over to the mother in laws for Christmas dinner, I drank Bitburger all day to help ease the throat and cold, seemed to do the trick for a few hours. We all had a great day, even my dog Boris
. My better half got me a fancy Leatherman Charge for Christmas and few fishing lures
. So far the rest of the Christmas holiday has been spent on the sofa watching films on a friends projector and keeping warm with a nice bottle of Hendrix gin, or should I say Hendrix heaven gin.
I have managed to find some time to process some more photos from my trip.
When in Fort Cochin I saw a snake charmer on the street outside our hotel.
We paid the man a few rupees and he did a great show for me, so good I paid him again for another show
. Below are some of the photos I took.
I have some more photos of the snake charmer on here , please let me know what you think by adding a comment here or on Flickr.
Nature photos from India
2Processing images from my India trip is going very slow, I put it down to the busy Christmas build-up and Modern Warfare 2, well mainly Modern Warfare 2.
Online multiplayer is very addictive, at the moment I’m playing it twice a day, I have to say it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. I’ve been playing computer games since the days of Pong Tennis back in the 80′s. WOW have we come along way since then. I can now chat to my mates from around the UK on xbox live while running around a war zone like a crazed maniac with a M16 and commando knife, sometimes staying alive long enough to kill 10 plus enemies, then brought down by a 10 year old from the US, probably.
Well, back to the photos, today I’m uploading some nature photos taken from my trip to south India. Taken with Nikon D90 and a Nikon D70, with a mixture of lenses from my 18-70 to 70-300 mainly. Processed in Lightroom 2 and sharpened in Photoshop.
We did a jungle trek in Periyar, I managed to grab this photo of a tree snake. The jungle trek was amazing and hard work ![]()
We both walked about 10km that day, with wet shoes covered in leeches trying to get in our socks. Great experience, we saw some good wildlife that day.
Taken in the gardens of Fort Cochin Club.
We went for a paddle boat trip at dusk, I captured this bat flying above us. The photo doesn’t doesn’t show how big these guys where.
This cheeky monkey was taken at Athirapally waterfalls.

Magical Munnar
4I’ve finally finished processing my photos taken in Munnar, India.
We went to Munnar for two days staying at the High Range Club. I could have stayed for a week of taking photos but we had to stick to our tight itinerary. Good excuse to go back I say
. The High Range Club was established in 1905, I don’t think it has changed much since then, the place has lots of character and we were well looked after.
If I had to describe Munnar in one word I would say “Green” this place is so lush and fertile its unbelievable, mountain slopes planted with tea everywhere you look.
Anyone going Kerala, should visit Munnar for at least a day, it’s a great experience, truly beautiful.
Below are some photos from the two days.
Processed in Adobe Lightroom 2 with minimal post processing, small amount of sharpening in Photoshop.
